On the Strength of the Concatenated Hash Combiner When All the Hash Functions Are Weak

چکیده
At Crypto 2004 Joux showed a novel attack against the concatenated hash combiner instantiated with Merkle-Damgård iterated hash functions. His method of producing multicollisions in the Merkle-Damgård design was the rst in a recent line of generic attacks against the Merkle-Damgård construction. In the same paper, Joux raised an open question concerning the strength of the concatenated hash combiner and asked whether his attack can be improved when the attacker can e ciently nd collisions in both underlying compression functions. We solve this open problem by showing that even in the powerful adversarial scenario rst introduced by Liskov (SAC 2006) in which the underlying compression functions can be fully inverted (which implies that collisions can be easily generated), collisions in the concatenated hash cannot be created using fewer than 2 queries. We then expand this result to include the double pipe hash construction of Lucks from Asiacrypt 2005. One of the intermediate results is of interest on its own and provides the rst streamable construction provably indi erentiable from a random oracle in this model.

A NEW SECRET SHARING SCHEME ADVERSARY FUZZY STRUCTURE BASED ON AUTOMATA
In this paper,we introduce a new verifiable multi-use multi-secretsharing scheme based on automata and one-way hash function. The scheme has theadversary fuzzy structure and satisfy the following properties:1) The dealer can change the participants and the adversary fuzzy structure without refreshing any participants' real-shadow. 2) The scheme is based on the inversion of weakly invertible fin...
متن کاملOn the security of hash function combiners
A hash function is an algorithm that compresses messages of arbitrary length into short digests of fixed length. If the function additionally satisfies certain security properties, it becomes a powerful tool in the design of cryptographic protocols. The most important property is collision-resistance, which requires that it should be hard to find two distinct messages that evaluate to the same ...
متن کاملThe Sum Can Be Weaker Than Each Part
In this paper we study the security of summing the outputs of two independent hash functions, in an effort to increase the security of the resulting design, or to hedge against the failure of one of the hash functions. The exclusive-or (XOR) combiner H1(M)⊕H2(M) is one of the two most classical combiners, together with the concatenation combiner H1(M) ‖ H2(M). While the security of the concaten...
متن کاملInvestigation of Some Attacks on GAGE (v1), InGAGE (v1), (v1.03), and CiliPadi (v1) Variants
In this paper, we present some attacks on GAGE, InGAGE, and CiliPadi which are candidates of the first round of the NIST-LWC competition. GAGE and InGAGE are lightweight sponge based hash function and Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD), respectively and support different sets of parameters. The length of hash, key, and tag are always 256, 128, and 128 bits, respec...
متن کاملSome Cryptanalytic Results on Zipper Hash and Concatenated Hash
At SAC 2006, Liskov proposed the zipper hash, a technique for constructing secure (indifferentiable from random oracles) hash functions based on weak (invertible) compression functions. Zipper hash is a two pass scheme, which makes it unfit for practical consideration. But, from the theoretical point of view it seemed to be secure, as it had resisted standard attacks for long. Recently, Andreev...
